STUDY OF ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORAL READINESS OF HEALTHCARE WORKERS (DOCTORS AND NURSES) TOWARDS COVID-19 VACCINATION

17 Aug 2021

The aim of the study is to inform policies for engaging health workers to ensure successful uptake of COVID 19 vaccination; accordingly, to understand the expectations of healthcare workers about vaccination and define action policies based on that.

In order to achieve the above mentioned aim, the following objectives were identified within the frames of the research:

  • Examine healthcare workers’ current barriers and contributing factors to vaccination
  • Define vaccine recommendation strategies by healthcare workers

Methods of data collection and analysis

In order to fully study the aim and objectives of the research, quantitative research method was used, specifically, survey. The study identified two target groups of respondents: a) doctors and b) nurses. The survey was conducted throughout Georgia, in all 11 regions. The research period was April 2-13, 2021.

Respondents were selected for the survey using the method of purposive sampling, namely the "snow ball" principle - on the one hand, doctors and on the other hand, nurses shared contact information of other members of the target group. Such approach expanded the circle of respondents. The healthcare workers selected through purposive sampling were distributed in the regions of Georgia, in accordance with the proportions of doctors and nurses in each region.

The survey covered healthcare workers of different age groups (doctors and nurses) working in both urban and rural areas.

The study was conducted by telephone interview (CATI) method. Respondents were interviewed with a structured questionnaire, which asked healthcare workers about coronavirus experience, trust in vaccines, attitudes towards the vaccination process, communication strategies with patients, conspiracy theories about vaccination, etc.

A total of 700 healthcare workers participated in the survey, who were equally distributed among the groups: 350 doctors, 350 nurses.
