Study of social parameters of social housing in different target groups, 2013

By the order of Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency, Institute of Social Studies and Analysis conducted a sociological research that aimed to evaluate the social parameters that must be taken into consideration while making a social housing, in order to avoid the social tension and conflict, between the beneficiaries of the housing on the one hand, and between the beneficiaries and population living in the surrounding buildings on the other hand;

Objectives of the research were:

  • Studying the condition of beneficiaries living in social housing and people in surrounding areas;
  • Study the needs and priorities of social housing beneficiaries;
  • Assessment of attitudes and views of social housing beneficiaries to social housing;
  • Assessment of attitudes of social housing beneficiaries to the population of the buildings/houses located around the social housing;
  • Assessment of population’s attitudes of buildings/houses located around the social housing to beneficiaries of social housing;

Within the scope of the survey, both qualitative and quantitative sociological researches were conducted. Three group discussions were held at the preparatory stage of the research 

Within the frame of quantitative research 664 respondents were interviewed in Tbilisi, Gori, Rustavi and Bolnisi using face-to-face interviews.

The target groups of research were: Beneficiaries of existing social housing in Tbilisi, Varketili, Gori, Rustavi, and Bolnisi; Residents of the buildings/houses located in the vicinity of social housing in Tbilisi, Gori, Rustavi, and Bolnisi.

Among the beneficiaries of the social housing within a representative sample, at least one 18+ members were interviewed. If the number of 18+ members was more than two, then 2 members of the family were interviewed; 2. Adult residents living in the vicinity of social housing in Tbilisi (Varketili), Gori, Rustavi, and Bolnisi. One 18+ members were interviewed of each family.
