The survey of condition of rights protection of patients under palliative care, 2011

The survey of condition of rights protection of patients under palliative care, 2011

9 Dec 2011

The research tasks were divided into the following parts: 1. Patient’s awareness towards his/her rights and different types of advantages; 2. Legal conditions of patients in terms of medical staff and institutions; 3. Conditions of patients in society (the attitudes of society, availability of different recourses, etc.). Three target groups were identified: 1. HIV infected; 2. AIDS diseased; 3. individuals needed palliative care.

On the basis of research objectives, qualitative (focus group discussions) and quantitative (polling, face-to-face interview) methods were used.  Based on the assumption, that the criteria of anonymity of first two groups (HIV infected and AIDS diseased) would be maximally protected, we considered advisable to survey the above mentioned target groups on polling basis and the persons needed palliative care were interviewed by face-to-face method.

In total three focus groups were conducted. The materials of group discussions were transcribed and analyzed by ISSA analyst.

All quantitative data were processed on the basis of statistical program of social survey (SPSS) by ISSA statisticians.

The project was implemented in cooperation with human rights defender, who was involved in almost all analytical stages of the project.

Currently the ISSA analyst is working on the final report.
